WFIT Community Advisory Board Member Job Description

About Us: WFIT-FM 89.5 is a dynamic public radio station committed to providing high-quality programming that reflects our local community's diverse interests and needs. We are dedicated to fostering community engagement, inclusivity, and public service through our broadcasts.

About the CAB: As a Community Advisory Board (CAB) Member, you will be crucial in connecting WFIT with the community we serve. The CAB is a group of dedicated individuals who provide valuable insights and feedback to ensure the station remains responsive to the needs and interests of our diverse audience. The CAB’s role is purely advisory and is not authorized to control WFIT and its daily management or operations.

WFIT’s NPR News and Music Discovery format seeks to promote and elevate the cultural and information needs of the Space Coast.

The composition of the CAB is intended to represent the diverse needs and interests of the community reasonably. A community’s interests may be driven by many factors, including ethnicity, economic variation, gender, political preference, age, and the geography of the area served by the station, among others.

Individuals may self-nominate or nominate someone else for CAB membership. Station staff will review the applications and make selections with advisement from the CAB chair and vice chair. WFIT volunteer on-air hosts are not eligible for CAB membership and are consulted regularly for their feedback about WFIT.

The CAB meets twice to thrice a year at the WFIT offices on the Florida Tech Campus or another location with a cultural or historic presence in our community. WFIT will make reasonable efforts to provide call-in or video conferencing for members who cannot attend in person. CAB meetings are open to the public. Please call 321-674-8950 for information about how to participate in a CAB meeting.

CAB members serve two-year terms and may be reappointed a year after their term expires.
