Antonio Salieri didn't get a fair shake in the play, Amadeus, in which he is cast as the villain vis a vis his more illustrious contemporary, W. A. Mozart. It's not true, of course, but it makes for good drama, and it has also made Salieri more famous than he has been in a very long time.
He didn't produce a great deal of purely instrumental music, but we have a piano concerto by Salieri on the schedule for this week. He was no slouch, as this performance on period instruments will attest.
