Some of Sandman's Favorites of 2017

Depeche  Mode--Spirit....bracing, direct, saying exactly what they want to say and sounding good doing it. Turn it up!

DeeDee Bridgewater---Memphis...Yes, I'm Ready One of our greatest jazz singers using the best of Memphis musicians...and throwing herself into the soul and funk music she's wanted to do for years.

Richard Thompson---Acoustic Classics II.....he revisits his work with just an acoustic guitar ....the tunes sound fresh and very pure..a joy to hear these songs this way.

Linda Perhacs---I'm A Harmony....only her third album...at age 75 she paints what the world might look like if we all lived in a state of love..give yourself over to it.

Neil Finn----Out of Silence....this artist gets better as he gets older...worth repeated listening a

Jason Isbell &The 400 Unit----The Nashville Sound....I have been saying for three years he is probably the best songwriter in America today.....this album reinforces my belief. By this one!

Kamasi Washington---Harmony of Difference...one of my favorite jazz albums of the year....listen and the album title becomes apparent. Well done Mr. Washington.

Mavis Staples---If All I Was Was Black.... A,very necessary album...but terribly sad that it is needed. Bravo Mavis!

Tanika Charles----Soul Run....at first hearing I found that I hoped she has a great and long career....listen to the song "Endless Chain" and you'll be convinced. Juno nominated for Best Soul/R&B album in Canada.

Alice Coltrane---The Devotional Music of Alice Coltrane...simply beautiful from a devout and searching artist. A welcome rerelease of this music....worth many listening a.

Paul Thorn---Don't let The Devil Ride....the artist turns to deeply soulful gospel tinged songs...and pulls it off brilliantly.

Mary Halverson Quartet---Palmon: The Book of Angels Vol. 32..this New York jazz artist had me at the first tune....pulls you in and you want to return immediately.

As always....open your mind, broaden your taste, and turn it up.
