Marine Resources Council's "Lagoon Fest"

The Indian River Lagoon (IRL) is well-known internationally as an estuary that supports biodiversity aswell as recreational and commercial fisheries. The IRL provides thousands of jobs and recreational opportunities, thus bringing billions of dollars to the regional economy.  Recently the IRL suffered from super blooms of algae. This has contributed to the loss of 47,000 acres of sea grasses in addition to hundreds of manatees, dolphins, pelicans and thousands of fish. Needless to say, the ecosystem may be approaching a point from which it may never recover. This recent problem has placed the local economy, as well as the quality of life for the residents near the Indian River Lagoon at risk. Residents, businesses, and agencies are seeking solutions to restore the estuary.

Marine Resources Council (MRC), a charitable organization in the Melbourne area has been coordinating lagoon-wide efforts to ‘Save the Indian River Lagoon’. However, added support is needed to succeed. MRC is organizing events that will encourage actions that will help save the Indian River Lagoon.

In their efforts to generate a positive campaign to raise funds for the preservation of this beautiful ecosystem, MRC is presenting “Lagoon Fest”, an all day music event that will bring awareness to their efforts to preserve the Indian River Lagoon. The event will feature George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic, and other dynamite line ups such as Zack Deputy, 4 Time Grammy Award Winner Trae Pierce & the T-Stone Band, Beebs and Her Money Makers, Thomas Wynn and the Believers, 23 Treez, and many more! Everyone is encouraged to stop by and enjoy great music, in support of the Indian River Lagoon.
