Florida Tech's African American Read-In Student Writing Contest. Entries should focus on highlighting stories of African American achievement on the local, state, and/or national level and their impact. Students can share stories of African American leadership, achievement, and inspiration from their own families and community or they can choose to write about a notable national figure and the legacy this person has created now or then in United States black history. The contest is open to students grades 7-12 and currently enrolled college students. Prizes will be awarded for the best entries from grades 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and the college student entries. Two categories of Personal Narrative: Short Story (1,500 words) and Poem (100 lines). Submit your entry using the African American Read-In Student Writing Contest Submission Form by February 10, 2020. Please email lkhan@fit.edu for more information.
