Celebrate WFIT's 40th Anniversary, Saturday, April 18th

Celebrating 40 Years of Public Radio for the Space Coast

The Florida Tech Newsroom has created a great Press Release about our landmark event!

WFIT 89.5 FM, “Public Radio for the Space Coast” is turning 40 and we're getting ready to celebrate!

The entire community is invited to join WFIT at our free 40th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, April 18. The festivities takes place at the Panthereum  and at WFIT Broadcast Center on the Florida Tech campus from noon until 6 pm.

In April 1975,  WFIT first began broadcasting as a student-run station in the basement of Roberts Hall on campus. As of October, 2012, the station operates as WFIT Broadcast Center and Studios, a state-of-the-art facility prominently located on University Avenue.

Jack Link and Associates has, coincidentally, also reached their 40th year in Brevard and will be partnering with WFIT by providing sound and stage production at the Panthereum.

The day will feature continuous live music, tours of the station, food and beverage vendors and non-profit and retail vendors. Participating bands include The Lights Out Project, Jacie and the Knick Knacks, Honey Miller Band, The Bees, Simone, Ras Michael Band, Robin and Eddie and Oranga Tanga. Spontaneous jam sessions with unannounced guests may surprise us.

Beer, wine and other beverages will be available for purchase along with delicious food from Hazel's Caribbean Restaurant, Slow 'n Low BBQ and Old School Pizza.

The Brevard community's non-profit sector will be well-represented by the Eau Gallie Arts District, Melbourne Main Street, Space Coast Progressive Alliance, Space Coast Pride, FIT's Foosaner Art Museum, Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts and Evans Library, the Sea Turtle Conservancy's Barrier Island Center, Zonta Club of Melbourne, Melbourne Art Festival, Florida Native Plant Society, and The Marine Resources Council.

Food, fun, music, dancing and more right here on the Florida Tech Campus! We're looking for past WFIT staff and DJ's. Please call us at 321-674-8950.

Forty years makes WFIT one of the longest running non-commercial volunteer-supported public radio stations in the country! WFIT is deeply grateful for four decades of community support. The April 18 concert celebration is WFIT's way of saying "Thank you!"
