SCPA Crisis at Southern Border October 10th

Crisis at the Southern Border

Written by  Team SCPA

"Crisis At The Southern Border" will be a community forum, co-hosted by the Brevard Chapter of the ACLU and the Space Coast Progressive Alliance.

Oct. 10th 6:30 - 8:30 PM Front Street Civic Center - 2205 Front Street, Melbourne FL.

Program is FREE and Open to the public.

Hundreds of thousands of people are arriving at the U.S.- Mexico border seeking refuge from dangers that were, to a significant degree, created by, and are now being intensified by, the United States. We are bombarded daily with heartbreaking images of toddlers separated from their families, detained immigrants in overcrowded cages and sleeping on concrete floors. These images have made the plight and pain of immigrants real, leaving many of us feeling overwhelmed.

What kind of country are we? How can we do this to the most vulnerable people on Earth -- immigrants? Why have our elected representatives failed to pass comprehensive immigration reforms, year after year?

The Statue of Liberty calls out: "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Our forum will not only present this humanitarian problem, but will pose some real solutions and show us how to live up to the ideals that are inscribed at the base of the Statue Of Liberty. Please join us on Thursday, Oct 10th for a community forum: "Crisis At The Southern Border". Our expert panelists will help us better understand the current state of immigration in the U.S. so that our community can be educated, feel empowered, and ultimately engage in creating solutions.

Expert Panelists:

Christina Keshishian: Brevard ACLU.

Stephanie Steen: Child Therapist.

Pastor Joel Tooley: Nazarene Church and We Welcome Immigrants National Consultant.

Oliver Torres: Southern Poverty Law Center, Immigrant Justice Project.

Oct. 10th 6:30 - 8:30 PM, Front Street Civic Center - 2205 Front Street, Melbourne FL.
