Pyotr Tchaikovsky

Remember the "Paul is dead" conspiracy theories of the late 1960s?

Tchaikovsky's sixth symphony has some mystery about it, with some claiming that it's a thinly veiled musical suicide note. Most say this is nonsense, Tchaikovsky died of cholera. But since he died a few days after conducting the symphony's premiere, there has always been an air of mystery surrounding his final symphony.

We have no answers to the question, but we'll conclude our cycle of the six Tchaikovsky symphonies with the Pathetique, the nonetheless haunting Symphony No. 6, this Sunday.
