W.A. Mozart and American violinist Rachel Barton Pine both began their musical careers at about the same age -- three!
Rachel's career was soon off and running as she took home the gold in a number of international competitions. Then a horrific railway accident sidelined her for a couple of years. But she's back now, and this week we'll conclude the cycle of the five Mozart Violin Concerti as she performs with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields (she also performs on electric violin with a heavy metal band, but that isn't Mozart). Rachel recently performed for NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series.
The cycle of the Shostakovich Preludes and Fugues continues with numbers 11 & 12 as played by another international gold medal winner, Tatiana Nikolayeva.
Music of Rachmaninoff and Ravel, and then a Bach set with some North German Baroque connections that are more than meets the eye.
