An Atlas V rocket successfully deployed a next-generation weather satellite for the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Saturday evening. The United Launch Alliance (ULA) rocket launched from SLC-41 at Cape Canaveral at the end of a one hour-long window at 18:42 local time.

The GOES-R satellite is the first in a new series of weather satellites that will provide images of weather patterns as fast as every 30 seconds. The launch window opens Saturday, November 19th at 5:42 PM.
