Jun 28 Saturday
The SPACE COAST WEAVERS & FIBER ARTISTS invite you to join them on June 28 from 10 am to noon at the Merritt Island Public Library, 1195 N Courtenay Pkwy for a free, hands-on workshop. Using a simple wooden board loom, we will learn BASIC TAPESTRY TECHNIQUES that can be used in all sorts of fiber projects. The small looms will be warped with cotton rug yarn and then small amounts and colors of yarn will be used to practice tapestry weaving techniques. Learn about weaving shapes and blending colors and discuss finishings for displaying your piece or making a tapestry into a small purse or jewelry. A wooden board loom (6 x 9 inches) with notches for warping will be provided, along with a tapestry needle. Bring 8/4 rug warp if you have it on hand, there will be some available. Please bring bits of yarns you may want to work with. Project left overs are great. Be sure to bring scissors and materials for taking notes. Please also bring a sturdy plastic fork or a metal fork for packing down weft fiber.Since 1983 SCW&FA has been Brevard’s go-to guild for fiber arts: spinning, weaving, basketry, rug hooking, and more. The guild helps fiber artists, beginning or advanced, learn through workshops and the informal exchange of ideas. They also work to educate the public about the fiber arts. Meetings are free and open to the public. For more information, call Jeanie McCormack at 321-266-1610. or visit https://www.spacecoastweaversandfiberartists.org/
