Sep 20 Wednesday
The September Kids Art Class with Glaucia Romano at the Studios of Cocoa Beach is “Clay Sweets”. In four sessions, On Thursdays September 7,14,21,and 28, . Children will create pottery cupcakes from clay which can be opened to store little treasures, and a clay ice-cream cone for decor.
This super-fun art class focuses on process, rather than product. Process art allows children to explore and make connections without the pressure of "right" or "wrong" ways to make art. It helps develop creativity and self-esteem by focusing on what kids imagine rather than their skill level. From excitement and interest in their own creations, kids grow curious and naturally start developing those skills. The group is small so each child can have as much attention and guidance as they need to create and learn! The class is ideal for children age 4 to 11.
Glaucia has an MA in Art Education and is a certified Art Educator in the state of Florida. She has taught art classes for over 15 years in the public and private sectors, mostly to kids, but also to adults. Felting is an ancient technique to create fabric that has been around since at least 6500 BCE! Felt is a non-woven textile made of wool or animal fur. If you have never tried needle-felting, it can be quite a calming, enjoyable, and meditative process despite its repetitive motions.

Glaucia will provide Gelli plates, brayers, and a multitude of materials to explore and create fun and expressive artwork! Two Japanese brands "Precious Metal Clay" (PMC), and "Art Clay Silver" are Japanese brands made of recycled metal, such as gold, silver, copper, and bronze. Using this material, we can create close to pure metal jewelry without casting, molds, or metal sheets. The material is flexible enough that you can hand-form easily and it is low-fire, which makes it easier to work with in your home.

Fee for the class is $80 plus a $40 supply fee. Finishing stones, beads, chains, and findings to complete your necklace can also be purchased from the instructor during the class.
