Florida Tech's 8th Annual Botanical Fest is the perfect opportunity to greet spring. Not everyone is interested in gardening, but few among us are immune to the human love affair with life that springtime induces. Being outdoors in springtime feels good and the vibrant loveliness of nature opens our eyes to beauty. For many, including myself, spring inspires a higher level of appreciation not just for beauty in nature, but  also for poetry, song, love and laughter.

“It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.” ~ Rainer Maria Rilke

For those of us who do love gardening and plants of all varieties, the8th Annual Botanical Festmakes for a picture perfect day. The event takes place Saturday, March 2nd on campus from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will showcase some of Florida’s finest plant and garden vendors. You can browse displays selling palms, exotics, bamboo, native plants, fruit trees, ornamental shrubs,  flowering plants, accessories and much more. Free guided tours of Florida Tech's Botanical Gardenwill take place hourly throughout the day.

WFIT will have an outreach table at the Botanical Fest, so be sure to stop by and say hello. Bill Stuart, host of Folk, Bluegrass and More will provide acoustic music to enhance the natural beauty of the day. WFIT will also be offering Starbucks Coffee for a modest donation.

So, even if you believe you have a "black thumb" please consider spending some time at the Botanical Fest. You'll encounter people from all walks of life, as a love of nature seems to be an inherent human trait. There will be crafts and pottery in addition to all the thriving plants. Some plants require no gardening skills at all, such as the fascinating ornamental bamboo collections you'll find. And you never know... you just might find that special someone who enjoys the finer things in life, just like you!
