Foosaner Art Museum Presents - Eclectic and Ethnic: Frida Kahlo's Wardrobe and Style, Lecture by Marta Turok

January 22, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the Harris Community Auditorium

For 50 years, Frida Kahlo’s personal wardrobe remained hidden from scholars and the public. Discovered in 2004, Marta Turok, was invited to review and catalog 300+ pieces. She was also invited to write an essay for the book Self Portrait in a Velvet Dress: The Fashion of Frida Kahlo (Chronicle, 2008), which pairs staged photographs of Kahlo’s newly restored clothing with historic photos of the artist wearing them and her paintings in which the garments appear. Turok’s lecture will weave a complex picture of Frida’s life. Turok is a Mexican applied anthropologist specializing in Mexican folk art and socio-economic development. She lives in Mexico City.
