Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Presents Pictures at an Exhibition October 31st

Space Coast Symphony Orchestra

Sandra Del Cid-Davies, flute
PROKOFIEV   Lieutenant Kije (presented with the 1934 film)
LIEBERMANN   Concerto for Flute and Orchestra
MUSSORGSKY   Pictures at an Exhibition

Sergei Prokofiev's first film score, written in 1933 for one of the earliest Soviet sound features, is today one of the most celebrated scores of that era.   Exceeding expectations, he created one of his most infectious and tuneful works. Perhaps often less recognized, it is one of the most forward thinking scores ever written.    The Space Coast Symphony will present the incredible Lieutenant Kije Suite while the 1934 film comes to life on the big screen.   Flutist Sandra Del Cid Davies returns to perform Lowell Liebermann's beautiful Concerto for Flute and Orchestra.   The piece is fresh, lyrical, thoughtful, and like all of his music, from the heart.    A much-loved classic of the orchestral repertoire concludes the program, with Ravel’s opulent orchestration of Mussorgsky’s piano suite Pictures at an Exhibition.  Mussorgsky’s whimsical and imaginative depictions of sketches and watercolors created by his recently deceased friend, Victor Hartmann.
