Celebrate Earthday-Make an Oyster Mat for the IRL

Living Dock Oyster Mat Workshop

by Kelli Hunsucker & Robert Weaver

Fri, April 21, 2017

2:00 PM – 6:00 PM EDT

FREE

This Earth Day help build oyster mats with Florida Tech’s Indian River Lagoon Research Institute (IRLRI). The mats will be deployed in the Indian River Lagoon as part of the Living Docksprogram to promote the growth of filter feeding organisms such as oysters, sponges, barnacles and tunicates. The oyster mats have the potential to significantly improve local water quality as well as provide habitat for crabs and fish.

Volunteers will meet on April 21st from 2 to 6 PM on the lawn of the Link Building (Florida Tech campus). Volunteers are asked to register for the free workshop, so that event organizers can provide adequate supplies.
