Mozart's Attic - Thursday, March 15th at 10:00 pm

Some say Jascha Heifetz was the greatest violinist of the 20th century. Some others say he was the greatest musician -- period -- of the 20th century. Still others say he was a cold technician whose mastery of his instrument missed the emotional point of the music altogether.

In 1957, Heifetz teamed up with Fritz Reiner -- another less-than-warm personality -- to perform the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the Chicago Symphony for a recording of this demanding work, a recording that remains a landmark to this day. See what you think; it's our featured piece at the Attic this week.

Originally from central Massachusetts, Jay has called the Space Coast home for more than 30 years. He began his association with WFIT in the late '90s as a dumpster diver for office furniture in response to a broadcast plea for a new chair from a frustrated disc jockey. (WFIT has come a long way since.)
