Leonard Bernstein’s Mass was commissioned for the gala opening of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington in 1971. Billed as a theater piece for singers, players, and dancers, it was of a piece with the turbulence of the times.

Now, more than a half-century later, it’s widely regarded as the iconic work of one of America’s foremost musical figures, and we’ll hear a complete performance this Sunday.

Originally from central Massachusetts, Jay has called the Space Coast home for more than 30 years. He began his association with WFIT in the late '90s as a dumpster diver for office furniture in response to a broadcast plea for a new chair from a frustrated disc jockey. (WFIT has come a long way since.)
