Mozart's Attic: Franz Schubert's Ninth Symphony

Franz Schubert, the archetypal starving artist, never got to hear some of his greatest works — and which of them could be greater than his Ninth Symphony?

He completed it at age 29 and sent off to a civic orchestra, and there it remained on a shelf until it found its way into Felix Mendelssohn’s hands thirteen years later.
We’ll hear his Great C Major Symphony as our featured work this Sunday.

He began his association with WFIT in the late '90s as a dumpster diver for office furniture in response to a broadcast plea for a new chair from a frustrated disc jockey. (WFIT has come a long way since.)
