From piano Wunderkind to composer of a beloved children’s classic; from pioneer writer of film scores to party-line holder; from hero of the republic to enemy of the people: Sergei Prokofiev experienced a wide swath of what it meant to be an artist in an authoritarian society.

We’ll take a look at the complicated life and music of one of the most important Russian composers of the 20th century on this week’s program.
