If you're looking for a truly unique musical experience, you won't want to miss the Brevard Busking Coalition'sperformance at Florida Tech's Panthereum Ampitheatreon Sunday, March 24th from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.
For those of you who may not know what "busking" is, here's a Wikipedia definition:
Street performance or busking is the practice of performing in public places, for gratuities, which are generally in the form of money and edibles. People engaging in this practice are called street performers, buskers, street musicians, minstrels, or troubadours.
I went straight to the source and asked a member of the Brevard Busking Coalition for a description of their musical genre and any other information they cared to share. The Buskers' hometown is West Melbourne, Florida. Their genres include World-Acoustic Punk, Folk, Bluegrass, Birth Metal. Hyperbolic, Supersonic Urban Folk is another colorful description I was treated to.
Upon inquiring about the musical instruments played by the Brevard Busking Coalition, I was given this information:
Take six multi-instrumentalists/singers and lock them in a music store over Memorial Day weekend with no electricity and plenty of fluids and Busker Chow. When you return, you'll find a giant pile of abandoned instruments: banjo, bass, guitars, mandolin, melodion, ukulele, didgeridoo, kazoo, singing bowl, big bass drum, bongos, cajon, djembe, doumbek, frame drum, kit, ramwong, talking drum, udu, agogo bells, cowbell, cymbals, flexitone, frog, goat hooves, guiro, klaves, metals, shakers, triangle, vibraslap, and more.
The band's interests range from 'peace, love and happiness kinda stuff to chocolate, expresso, freedom, hot sauce, crash potatoes, organic meat, hot tea, one fish two fish green fish blue fish and spicy.'
The Brevard Busking Coalition's performance at the Panthereum this coming Sunday sounds like it will be a unique musical experience indeed!
Bring a blanket or lawn chair or enjoy the new seating at the Panthereum. The Panthereum is located next to the Denius Student Center, Country Club Road.
Radio station WFIT, 89.5 FM and the City of Melbourne present these free concerts. On Sunday, April 28, Sam Pacetti will perform.
