Marine Resources Council's December Brown Bag Lunch North Atlantic Right Whale Season Update

It's that time again! December kicks off this year's North Atlantic Right Whale Season. MRC's very own North Atlantic Right Whale Coordinator, Julie Albert, will be speaking about the status of the endangered whales. This season she will be giving a population update highlighting the 2% population loss this summer. She will also be giving a general overview of their life history, biology, threats and conservation status, as well as, teaching how to identify and protect North Atlantic right whales.

Julie received her Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology from Texas A&M University at Galveston in 1995. She dedicated her time as a Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network Volunteer for five years. In 1991, she began volunteering for the Florida Marine Research Institute in Melbourne, now called the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Shortly after, Julie became the program coordinator of the MRC;s right whale program. Julie continues to operate the toll-free Right Whale Sightings Hotline (1-888-979-4253). She also conducts public education classes each year during right whale season from December 1st to March 3rd.

The event is free and open to the public. Attendees must register. If interested and able, we ask participants to donate $5 toward our guest speaker series. This educational series is a long-standing and cherished program of the MRC that is supported by volunteers and the community's charitable giving. All donations are tax-deductible.

Attendees are encouraged and welcome to bring and enjoy their lunch during the seminar!
