Collage Couture Showcases Local Designers & Benefits Art Camps

ART CAMP FUNDRAISER FEATURES FASHION INSPIRED BY ARTIST DEREK GORES

Collage Couture, a fusion of fashion and art to benefit Florida Tech’s summer art camps, will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the university’s Foosaner Art Museum in the Eau Gallie Arts District.

Staged in the museum’s galleries, Collage Couture features nine designers who will present works inspired by Melbourne-based artist Derek Gores’ collage work and drawings. Gores is celebrated worldwide for his innovative work in the art of collage, a montage process by which he creates compositions from magazine scraps, song lyrics and abstract patterns.

Designers Sabrina Servance, Kitty Drew, Maria Storman, Nadail Watson, Lear Bunda, Cassandra Wyzik, Virginia Rivera, Jessica Neal and Rosemary Heptig will present pieces ranging from avant-garde creations to ready-to-wear fashion.

“Since I spend my time ripping up fashion magazines for my art, this will be a fun twist to reverse things and see fashion inspired by art,” Gores said. “I can’t wait to see what the designers create, and we’re all thrilled the event will raise funds for summer art camp scholarships. I was an eager 10-year-old artist in those camps long ago, and it is important to fuel the next young creatives here in the Eau Gallie Arts District.”

All profits from the show will support summer art camps held at Florida Tech’s Renee Foosaner Education Center.

A limited number of tickets is available. They are $25 per person for general admission (standing) and $100 per person for runway seating. Tickets may be purchased at www.derekgores.com/blog.

Local corporate sponsors are Nanialei Golden, MD; the Injury Care Clinic; Sharon Deligdish; and Elevated Personal Wellness.

Terri Wright held the position of General Manager at WFIT from 1998-2023.
