Almost every state in the U.S. has procedures that restore voting rights to convicted felons at the conclusion of their sentence -- including prison, parole and probation. Until last month, Florida was one of only four states that did not. Florida voters fixed that in the last election, and approved "Amendment 4" to our state Constitution, that reinstates the right to vote to approximately 1.6 million men and women (with the notable exception of those convicted of murder and sex offenses). Almost immediately, our new Governor and some state legislators began casting doubts on how the new constitutional language would be implemented.

64.55% of voters said "YES" to this amendment. To put that in context, approximately 6 million Floridians voted in the November 2018 election. How will returning an additional 1.6 million voters to the process affect future elections in our state?
Article VI, Section 4 of the Florida Constitution has been amended. Will our elected leaders ignore this amendment, the same way that they've willfully ignored constitutional provisions defending Florida's land and water, and implementing a high speed rail system? They have routinely turned their backs on the will of Florida voters for years, with no consequences. Will this be any different?
As of January 8th, the Brevard Supervisor of Elections joined other SOEs across Florida by accepting qualified ex-felons' voter registration applications, and is issuing voter registration cards. Now what?

The SCPA is a registered "third party voter registration organization", and we have begun helping ex-felons register to vote. There are several other organizations across Florida that are also working to help with this monumental effort.
