Elder Abuse Awareness Expo

Nationally, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day will be observed on June 15.

In Brevard County, the Department of Children and Families, Brevard County TRIAD and Brevard Commission on Aging will host the 10th annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (W.E.A.A.D.) event.

The event will be held on June 14  from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Melbourne Auditorium, located at 625 E. Hibiscus Boulevard in Melbourne.

Admission, parking and breakfast and lunch are free to all attendees.

This year’s Brevard County event will provide the community with information on resources available to assist them.

Exhibitors will include memory screenings, caregiver information, local law enforcement and public safety providers, community service resource providers, local pharmacies, meal providers and transportation providers with options and solutions.

Every year, nearly five million older persons are abused, neglected, and exploited.

In addition, elders throughout the United States lose more than $2.6 billion annually due to elder financial abuse and exploitation, funds that could have been used to pay for their basic needs.
