UPDATE: A SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket sent a NASA science probe on a six-year flight to the Psyche asteroid Saturday morning.

UPDATE: NASA and SpaceX are standing down from the Oct. 12 launch of the agency’s Psyche mission due to unfavorable weather conditions. NASA and SpaceX are now targeting launch at 10:19 a.m. EDT Friday, Oct. 13, from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

NASA and SpaceX are preparing to launch the Psyche probe to an asteroid orbiting the Sun between Mars and Jupiter. Liftoff is currently scheduled for Thursday, October 12th at 10:16AM. The asteroid is unique because it may be the exposed nickel-iron core of an early planet, one of the building blocks of our solar system. WFIT's Rick Glasby tells us more:
