This annual festival celebrates the beautiful plant with bus tours of caladium growers, caladium exhibits, art competitions and vendors, bulb and plant sale, antique cars, and live entertainment. This year will also see the special addition of the “Caladium Flyer” from Sugar Express, Florida’s only historic steam-powered passenger train. One-hour train trips will depart Lake Placid on Friday and Saturday at 10am, noon and 2:00pm each day. The festival is free to attend. Train tickets are $30.

The Brevard Backyard Beekeepers will be buzzing with activity at the University of Florida Brevard County Extension Center on Lake Drive in Cocoa from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm Saturday August 10th to celebrate National Honey Bee Day! The event is free to the public and is aimed to heighten awareness and appreciation for honey bees and to provide educational information about the global importance of the world's most important single species of pollinator. The event will feature demonstrations and lectures by Expert Beekeepers and Master Gardeners. Watch a honey extraction and take home a free sample. Taste honey samples, look inside a bee hive, talk to expert beekeepers and try on a beekeepers suit. Kids can participate in a Spelling Bee for great prizes. Come dressed like a bee to help celebrate the day. Plenty of local honey, hive products and local crafts will be available for purchase. Education, food, children’s games and activities will be on hand to celebrate everything honey bees!
